How to Become a Seller on Amazon

Selling on Amazon has become one of the hottest side hustles of the decade, and for many people, it can rapidly replace all other employment to become the primary source of income for those people. While many people will have the desire to sell on Amazon, many never get started because they get stuck wondering how to sell things on Amazon.

Too many people treat Amazon as a get-rich-quick-scheme, which is why they fail. We’re going to look at how to become a seller on Amazon in a step-by-step process. We’re also going to look at how to sell things on Amazon, by creating your first listings. Here’s what you need to know to become a seller on Amazon.

How To Become A Seller On Amazon

There are a few things you’ll need to gather or otherwise have ready before you start. You will need these things for the Amazon seller sign-up and account creation process. To create your Amazon seller account you’ll need the following:

  • The legal form of your company or business
  • Valid trade license
  • Documentation proving your identities, such as an ID card or passport
  • Bank account information
  • Credit card
  • Valid phone number

When creating your Amazon seller account, you’ll have two options. You can either create an Individual Seller Account or a Professional Seller Account. The primary difference is in the pricing structure and the account limitations. The individual seller account is only permitted to sell up to 40 items per month, and while there is no monthly fee there is a fee of $0.99 for every item sold. The professional seller account has no limits on the number of items that can be sold each month, and while there is a monthly fee of $39.99, there are no per-item sales fees.

The next thing you’ll need to decide on is your fulfillment method. You can choose from FBA or fulfillment by Amazon, or fulfillment by merchant. With fulfillment by merchant, you will be responsible for storing, packing, and shipping all of your own inventory. If you choose fulfillment by Amazon, you can choose to basically outsource all of those duties to Amazon. Fulfillment by merchant means that every time someone orders, you are personally packing and shipping their order, while FBA only requires you to ship your items to an Amazon distribution center, and they will handle the rest. There are additional charges associated with FBA, however, which FBM sellers can avoid.

From there, the last step is to set up your first listings. With several billion listings on the platform, your listings will need to stand out from the crowd. You’ll also need to use various tools to ensure that your listing is optimized sufficiently so that it comes up in relevant searches. Eventually, you’ll want to promote listings with PPC or pay-per-click advertising on the Amazon platform.

How To Sell Things On Amazon

The biggest challenge for most Amazon beginners is finding the right merchandise to sell on Amazon. One thing you have to remember is that selling on Amazon will cost you time, and it will cost you money, so only get into it if you’re ready to make the necessary investments.

One of the popular ways to figure out what to sell is to use a third-party site like Helium10 to find specific products that have high demand but low competition. This gives you a solid place to start by finding potential products to sell that would have a much higher chance of selling than many other products or categories.
